  1.     Traditional computer keyboards have a key marked ESCAPE, and many applications require you to to type an ESCAPE character for various functions.

  3.     On a Mac SE or Mac II keyboard, an ESCAPE key is provided, so there is no problem.

  5.     On Mac Plus and older keyboards, there is no ESCAPE key, so you have to fake it.  You can type an ESCAPE by holding down the Clover and Shift keys while pressing the backquote (`) key at the upper left of the keyboard.
  6.     If you prefer, you can use the "Your Preferences..." command from the "Settings" menu so that simply pressing the backquote key by itself has the effect of an escape key, and Clover-backquote means backquote.
